Here I have discussed how to solve syllogism with 3 statements quickly. This time we are discussing a more difficult type of syllogism in which 3 statements are given and based on these three statements, we are given 4 conclusions and we have to select the right conclusion.
How to Solve 3 Statement Syllogism:
Here is the example:
Statement:
1. Some newspapers are computers.
2. Some computers are televisions.
3. No television is a magazine.
Conclusions:
1. No newspaper is a magazine.
2. No computer is a magazine.
3. Some computers are not magazine.
4. Some newspapers are televisions.
Solution:
Combine statement 1 and statement 2 and cancel out computers and adding, we get
Some+ some =no conclusion
Now combine statement 2 and statement 3 and calcel out television and adding the qualifiers (some, no) in these statements, we get
Some + no= some not
Means
Some computers are not magazines. (this is conclusion 3. So conclusion 3 follows)
YOU CAN ALSO WATCH A VIDEO TUTORIAL ON HOW TO SOLVE SYLLOGISM QUICKLY.
{Note: suppose if we found ‘some not reversed’ in the above statements 2 and 3, then after combining them and cancelling ‘television’ from both, we will get
Some magazines are not computers.}
Make a list of all types of conclusions that can be derived from the statements given in the question using table 1 given in the previous post ‘how to solve syllogism quickly’.
Now check out the conclusions given in the question
Conclusion 1- doesn’t follow.
Conclusion 2-doesn’t follow.
Conclusion 3- follows.
Conclusion 4- doesn’t follow.
Answer- only conclusion 3 follows.
