SBI PO Syllabus 2022 and Exam Pattern

State Bank of India conducts written examination for Probationary Officer posts. The selection procedure consists of three phases. Phase 1 will be for screening of non-serious candidates to remove the competition. Phase 2 will be main exam consisting of written as well as descriptive paper. Those candidates who qualifies phase 2 are further tested with GE and Interview.

Exam Structure:

Phase-I : Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1 hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 20 times the numbers of vacancies subject to availability) will be short listed for the Main Examination.
Phase – II: Main Examination:

It will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online.

The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.
(i) Objective Test: The Objective Test of 3 hour duration consists of 4 Sections (Total 200 marks) as follows:

The candidates are required to qualify in each of the Tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

(ii) Descriptive Test: The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). Two questions will be asked in this test.
The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.
Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks
in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in objective test.

Phase – III: Psychometric Test: Group Exercise (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)

The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category. Adequate number of candidates in each category, as decided by the Bank will be called for GE and Interview. The qualifying marks in GE &Interview will be as decided by the Bank.Final Selection:
The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added for the selection and only the marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II) will be added to the marks obtained in GE & Interview (Phase-III) for preparation of the final merit list.
The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. Marks secured by the candidates in the Written Test (out of 250 marks) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Exercise & Interview (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and GE &Interview out of 100 for each category. The selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.

1. Reading Comprehension (10+10) – Moderate to difficult – It takes lot of time to find answers from these.
2. Jumbled Sentences (5) – Moderate – Practice is the key to these types of questions.
3. Close Passages (10) – Moderate
4. Errors Correction / spotting error (15) – Easy to Moderate – You need to know all the English grammar rules to get better marks from these questions.2. Quantitative Aptitude:

2. Banking Awareness:
Banking, terms, SIDBI, SBI, IRDA, Finance, Financial terms, Shares, Insurance etc.
3. Economy Awareness
Questions related to economy of India, terms etc.
4. Data Analysis & Interpretation:

Descriptive Test

It will be totally online. Candidates have to type their answers on computer.
Descriptive paper is divided in 5 parts. You need to write descriptive essays on topics like given below. The test carry 50 marks and of 1 hour duration to test candidate’s English language skills.
Letter (10)-Questions on saving account, net banking, education loan etc.
Paragraph (8)-Rural Banking, Impact of autonomy
Precise Writing (10)-Chief Vigilance Officer
Reading Comprehension (10)- ATM and its uses
Essay Writing (12)-Technology, Right to education act, Financial Inclusion
Descriptive test is of qualifying nature. Candidates have to secure passing marks.  It is tested of those candidates who qualifies in objective test.

Phase 3: Group Exercise and Interview

The candidates who qualifies in both tests will be called for GE and interview. Group Exercise will carry 20 marks and interview will be of 30 marks.
Final Selection will be based on marks scored in the main written test, GE and interview.
